Little Richie, I am not a frequent contributor to the forum but this time feel the need to help out. I like various makers according to price, productivity, quality and differences in type (action). Hard work and dedication figure very highly into my judgement as well. For reasons stated I like Jim Becker of VT and former Orvis builder, AJ Thramer of course and for all those reasons, Hal Bacon for quality and most of all history and Ted Simroe who I believe is the best current maker for price, quality and historical significance. Ted has been making fine rods in the Leonard tradition for about 40 years, has the longest experience working at Leonard than any other maker who claims Leonard tenure and I can't believe how reasonable his prices are in today's market. He gets what many emerging makers are asking for and his work is incredibly good; his rods behave elegantly. Needless to say my catologue always has several rods from each of these makers. You really need to take a serious look at both Ted Simroe and Jim Becker -- for their differences in style, background and pricing. Carmine Lisella, Jordan Mills Rod Co.

    Carmine,
Thanks for your input. How should I put this? I think that I have seen your catalog a few times and know your feelings about the two you named. I'm Richard Goldberg.
    Take care,
